The school in East Sussex, for pupils aged 11 to 16, said it will close today (June 29) and won't reopen until Monday July 12, meaning nine full days of classroom time will be replaced by on-line learning.

East Sussex County Council said staff were informed on Monday of a significant number of PCR/LFD positive cases of COVID-19 within the College.

As a result, a number of students were identified as close contacts and sent home.

A spokesperson continued:

"In light of this, we have taken further advice from Public Health England SE.

"To prevent the further spread of the virus across the student body, and to protect staff at the College, we have taken the difficult decision to close the College to all students for a period of time, with immediate effect.

"Students will have access to remote learning during this period, returning to face-to-face lessons at the College on Monday 12 July.

"This period of remote learning creates a ‘circuit breaker’ period, that will hopefully prevent further exposure to close contacts.

"Remote Learning will be issued via Class Charts and will follow the normal timetable of lessons."
