Crawley "201MPH Speeding Video" — Police Make Two Arrests

Police have arrested two men, in connection with a video which appeared to have been filmed inside a car travelling at up to 201mph in Sussex.

It's after footage was posted on social media, apparently made from a moving vehicle travelling southbound on the M23 between Gatwick and Crawley.

Officers believe the film to have been taken at some point during the coronavirus lockdown.

Following enquiries, the vehicle identified as being involved – a black Audi RS6 – was located outside the Sussex Police area, and was seized for further investigation.

Two suspects have been detained.

A 38-year-old man from Crawley, arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

A 38-year-old man from Horsham, arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, has been released on conditional bail until 9 July, pending further enquiries.

CI Michael Hodder said:

"As part of this complex investigation, we have pursued a number of lines of enquiry which has led to the arrest of two suspects.

"However, our enquiries are ongoing and we are still urging anyone with any information about the incident to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Checkmate."

CI Hodder added:

"Speeding is one of the four most common causes of fatal and serious injury collisions, and we will not tolerate these offences on our roads.

"While the vast majority of motorists stay within the speed limits, there is a small minority who put themselves and others at risk.

"There is no excuse for speeding at any time, and we will actively investigate any offences committed."
