Police say terrorism isn't suspected as they investigate how a van came to be driven into a perimeter gate at Gatwick.
Police were called at around 3.43am after the vehicle ran into the barrier at the end of Bonnetts Lane, a country road on the airport's southern edge.
Officers arrested a man from Crawley on suspicion of a number of offences which include:
- Criminal damage
- Entering a restricted area of an aerodrome
- Being in possession of a Class B drug
- Driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
He remains in custody as enquiries are ongoing.
According to police, there was no disruption caused to Gatwick Airport, its passengers or staff during the incident, and flights continue to run as normal.
