Crawley Sees 'Largest Unemployment Increase In UK' Between August-September 2020

According to data by an economic think tank, Crawley saw the largest increase in unemployment claims over the last month.

That's according to a tool launched by Centre for Cities which tracks unemployment in 63 of the largest cities and towns in the UK.

According to the think tank, the number of people claiming unemployment-related benefits has increased by 1.4 million since March, and now stands at 2.7 million people.

Crawley sits at third place (5.1% increase) out of the cities and towns that have had the largest increases in people claiming unemployment-related benefits since the March lockdown.

Brighton has also made it into the top ten, with an increase of 4.2%.

Crawley has also topped the charts for the largest increase in unemployment in the last month, with Slough and London shortly behind.

While also slowing down, the number of young people claiming unemployment-related benefits is rising at a faster rate than the number of adults overall.
