Dame Vera Lynn Passes Away Aged 103

World-renowned entertainer and 'Forces Sweetheart' Dame Vera Lynn has sadly passed away at home in Ditchling, East Sussex, at the age of 103.

Dame Vera was best known for her wartime hits such as We'll Meet Again and The White Cliffs of Dover.

She celebrated her 103rd birthday in March, and once again brought solace to the Nation during the coronavirus outbreak - when her best-known song was re-released in video form.

A well-loved Ditchling resident, she turned her attention to raising money for charities across Sussex in her later years - including the Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity.

In a statement her family said:

"The family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of Britain's best-loved entertainers at the age of 103.

"Dame Vera Lynn, who lived in Ditchling, East Sussex, passed away earlier today, 18 June 2020, surrounded by her close family."

Dame Vera Lynn’s charm and magical voice entranced and uplifted our country in some of our darkest hours. Her voice will live on to lift the hearts of generations to come.
