Detectives granted more time to question suspects in Brighton murder investigation

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Brighton yesterday morning (Wednesday, 11) have been given more time to question two men arrested in connection with his death. Police were called to a flat in Stafford Road just before 2am and forced entry to the premises, where the victim was found with serious injuries. The man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital shortly before 4am. Police arrested a 44-year-old man from Brighton and a 45-year-old man, of no fixed address, on suspicion of murder a short time after the incident. Today (Thursday, 12), magistrates granted detectives a warrant of further detention, to question the suspects for another 36 hours. Officers said the victim has not yet been identified. DCI Alex Geldart, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We are working with partner agencies in a bid to establish his identity and are undertaking house-to-house enquiries in the area to find out if he was known to neighbours as a resident or may have just been visiting the property. "He is white, appears to be in his 20s, 6' 2" tall and of very slim build. "We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen him in the area or who recognises his description." Anyone with information is asked to report it online, or call 101, quoting Operation Barnfield.
