Detectives granted more time to question Worthing terrorism suspect

Detectives have been given more time to question a man from Worthing arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences. Police said the 20-year-old was arrested at around 5am on Monday morning (February, 24) following a pre-planned operation at an address in the town. The suspect was detained on suspicion of the commission, preparation or insitgation of acts of terrorism under section 41 of the Terrorism Act (2000). Police said a warrant of further detention has now been granted, allowing investigators to question the man until Monday (March, 2). According to the force, the arrest was intelligence-led and linked to Islamist-related terrorism. Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter, District Commander for Adur, Worthing and Horsham, said: "Sussex Police have worked closely with the Counter-Terrorism investigators to support their operation which is not in response to any specific threat to our local area. "Our thanks go to nearby residents in the location involved for their patience and understanding while this operation was carried out."   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
