Worthing

Drivers can expect disruption in Worthing overnight next week.

Both Chapel Road, in the town centre, and Broadwater Street West, will be resurfaced.

The roads will be closed to all through-traffic overnight, with hours of work generally between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday. Vehicles, including buses, will be diverted via a signed diversion route.

Chapel Road is scheduled to be resurfaced, between North Street and South Street, from 22 February to 3 March, subject to factors such as severe weather.

Broadwater Street West is scheduled to be resurfaced between Ardsheal Road and the A27, Grove Lodge roundabout, including the junction with Cissbury Road, from 2 to 16 March - again, subject to factors beyond our control.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said:

“We don’t decide to carry out night-time resurfacing lightly. Work of this nature does cause disruption for both residents and businesses, for which we apologise.

“We have taken into account the wider disruption to the public that would be caused through daytime work on these busy roads.

“Every effort will be made to try to minimise the inconvenience: for example, our contractor will try its best to carry out the noisiest operations in the earliest part of the evening and before 11pm.”

Shops and other businesses will be able to open as normal.
