Police were called to an address in Brighton early yesterday evening, to reports of a distressed man in possession of a petrol can.
Officers attended the scene just after 7pm along with fire and ambulance services, setting up a cordon around the man in Preston Street, to ensure everyone's safety.
Following negotiations, officers say they managed to detain him safely.
Emergency services want to thank the public for their patience and understanding while they responded to the incident.
