'Don't travel' to Sussex's beaches and beauty spots is united message ahead of warm weekend

Please keep away from popular locations for outdoor leisure in Sussex if you don't live nearby. The same message has come from multiple community and political leaders along with public bodies in the county, as a warm weekend begins from today (Friday, 15). A focus of the warnings has been Sussex's beaches, which will not be patrolled by lifeguards according to the RNLI and H.M. Coastguard. In Hove, Peter Kyle MP made the well-being of local residents his priority: "We need the space to care for, and protect each other here in our city right now. "Please help us focus on that." Rother District Council's leader believed large numbers of people at Camber Sands and Bexhill's shoreline could risk breaking social distancing guidelines, and lead to further transmission of the coronavirus. Councillor Doug Oliver said: "We appreciate the rules have changed slightly, and people are desperate for life to return to normal. "Our message to anyone thinking of travelling here for a day on the beach is please don't." Meanwhile, staff at the South Downs National Park Authority have emphasised the quality of clean air and clearer skies over the Sussex countryside, hoping it can continue. They requested: "You can help to keep it that way by trying to stay home as much as possible. "Keep any visits to the South Downs National Park car-free — think of it as maximizing your exercise."
