Duke and Duchess of Sussex release charity video for Archie's first birthday

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have released a new video of their son Archie to mark his first birthday.

The clip shows Meghan reading her one-year-old son one of his favourite books Duck! Rabbit! as he sits on her knee, with brief off-screen participation from Harry, who filmed the video.

Archie, who looks very much like his father, can be seen giggling as he helps his mother turn the pages, before getting a bit restless and grabbing another book which he throws towards his mum.

The video was released on the Save the Children Instagram account, @savechildrenuk, to raise funds for their coronavirus campaign #SaveWithStories.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said: As they celebrate this family moment, the duke and duchess wanted to continue to raise awareness around the urgency of bringing food and learning resources to millions of children. The duchess chose to read one of Archie's favourite stories, Duck! Rabbit!

Other parts of the Royal Family have wished the one-year-old a happy birthday, with the Royal Family, Clarence House and Kensington Royal Twitter feeds all posting photos of the little boy with his family, along with a birthday message.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor was born at the Portland Hospital in London a year ago and his excited father Prince Harry appeared in front of the cameras at Windsor Castle that afternoon to announce the arrival of their new son.

The first photos of Archie were taken a few days later at a carefully controlled and small photo opportunity inside Windsor Castle.

Since then only a handful of photos of Archie have been released, including pictures from his christening, a Christmas card, a photo of him at New Year's with Harry in Canada.

His only formal engagement, which media were allowed to film ,was a meeting with Desmond Tutu during the Sussexes' tour of Africa last September.

The family are now settled in the US after deciding to step away from royal duties and start a financially independent life.

Donations to Save the Children can be made via the charity's website or by texting STORIES to 70008 to make a one-off donation of £5.
