'Virtual Home Safety Visits' For East Sussex Residents

Smoke alarms and fire retardant safety bedding are among life-saving items being delivered across Sussex by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters are carrying out 'Virtual Home Safety Visits' but can still go to the most vulnerable residents in person.

Telephone conversations have been taking place for anyone requesting a Home Safety Visit/Safe and Well Visit, to determine what advice can be successfully delivered remotely.

However, if there is a high risk to the vulnerable then crews can still visit - taking the appropriate preventative safety measures.

Items such as alarms and fire retardant safety bedding can all be delivered in person.

Head of Community Safety, David Kemp, said:

“The virtual set-up is already proving highly successful and means that we can continue to support vulnerable residents, who need our help.

“The Service recently assisted a 91-year-old whose alarm was beeping and within just an hour East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service had resolved the issue.

“We would urge any who has any concerns to please still contact us for assistance and advice.”

A member of the Community Safety Team will then be in contact to arrange a suitable time for a telephone chat.
