Eastbourne Burglar Sentenced To 15 Months

A man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison following two burglaries in Eastbourne.

Police say Steven Greavey, 32, of no fixed address, broke into the Hadleigh Hotel in Burlington Place, on Friday 13 May.

He took numerous items from the premises, including money and alcohol.

The next day, on May 14, he broke into a nearby house, stealing credit and debit cards belonging to the homeowners, who were asleep inside the house at the time.

He then used the cards in a local shop but was stopped and searched by police soon after, whereby the stolen cards were found and Greavey was arrested - during his arrest, he assaulted the arresting officer.

CCTV footage placed Greavey at the hotel and forensic evidence linked him to the residential burglary.

Greavey pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, June 21. He received a 15 month prison sentence for two counts of burglary, one count of theft, one count of assault on an emergency service worker and three counts of fraud by false representation.
