Eastbourne RNLI Lifeboat Rescue After Stricken Yacht's Midnight Alert

Stricken Yacht Towed By Eastbourne RNLI Volunteers In Midnight Callout (Picture: Eastbourne RNLI)

Eastbourne's volunteer lifeboat crew were called-out to sea in the early hours of the morning, yesterday (September 2).

They responded to an emergency call from a yacht whose engine had failed, and which couldn't be controlled in the very light overnight winds.

Crew members were able to tow the boat into the town's Marina for repairs.

The RNLI said:

"Eastbourne’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched just after midnight on Wednesday morning following a 'Pan-Pan' distress call.

"The yacht, on passage from Holland with three people on board, had suffered engine failure and was unable to make way under sail in the light winds.

"After a call-out at 00.08 activated by a request from H.M. Coastguard, the disabled vessel was located 7 miles South of Sovereign Harbour and towed back to the safety of the marina for repairs."
