Eight Brighton Players Set For World Cup Action

The World Cup officially gets underway in less than a week, when Senegal take on host nation Qatar in a 7pm kick-off this Sunday (November 20).

Brighton's first stanza of the campaign ended on something of a sour note, with a controversial 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa at the Amex yesterday (13).

And while new manager Roberto De Zerbi's assertion that striker Danny Welbeck was unlucky not be recalled to the England squad was somewhat fanciful, Lewis Dunk was unfortunate to miss out in light of the selection of defenders such as Harry Maguire.

Despite these omissions, EIGHT Albion players will feature at the tournament — here's a look at who'll be involved and what we can expect from our Albion stars.

One of the tournament's outsiders, the South American nation are in group A alongside Qatar, Senegal and group favourites Netherlands.

Brighton's trio of Ecuadorian stars are likely to be pivotal in their quest for the last-16, with Caicedo among the best young players in the Premier League.

Tariq Lamptey (Ghana)

The jet-heeled full-back-cum-winger opted to represent Ghana rather than England earlier this year.

He'll face a challenging time in Group H, with matches against Portugal, Korea Republic and inaugural World Cup winners Uruguay.

Brighton's number one is likely to start the tournament on the bench, with Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon preferred between the sticks for Spain.

They'll be joined in Group E by Japan, Germany and Costa Rica.

The Belgian winger has been imperious for Brighton this season with 7 goals in 14 games and is likely to start for Belgium — one of the tournament favourites.

Roberto Martinez's Red Devils are in Group F alongside Canada, Morocco and Croatia.

Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina)

The 23-year-old midfield maestro is another to have blossomed this season, adding end product to his already effective build-up play.

His Argentina side will be favourites to win Group C, which also contains Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.

Kaoru Mitoma (Japan)

This season's breakout star at the Amex, the Japanese winger and his teammates face the daunting proposition of a stacked Group E.

They'll be up against Germany, Spain and Costa Rica.
