An elderly man is in hospital seriously injured after being trapped in a vehicle following a collision on the A24 at Dial Post. Emergency services were called to the incident on the southbound carriageway just before 4.15pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 8) after a Fiat Panda and VW Golf collided opposite The Old Barn Garden Centre. Police said the driver of the Fiat, an 83-year-old man from Burgess Hill, had to be freed by firefighters and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious injuries. The driver and passenger in the Golf, two men from Steyning aged 29 and 36, sustained minor injuries, according to officers. Police said the southbound carriageway of the A24 was closed until the evening while casualties were attended to and the scene was investigated and cleared.
