Elderly woman dies and two others injured after crash in Hurst Green

An elderly woman has died and two others left seriously injured following a crash in Hurst Green yesterday (Wednesday, 26). Police were called to a collision between two cars on the A229 Merriments Lane shortly before 3.30pm. Officers said a silver Honda Jazz travelling east collided with a grey Ford Mondeo travelling west, near the Merriments Garden Centre, close to the Kent-Sussex border. The Honda driver, a 63-year-old woman from Cranbrook, Kent, sustained serious injuries and was taken hospital. Her passenger, an 88-year-old woman from Hawkhurst, Kent, suffered multiple injuries and later died in hospital. The Ford driver, a 66-year-old man from Heathfield, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken wrist, bruising and shock. Officers said both vehicles involved were extensively damaged and firefighters dealt with oil and fuel spillages. Merriments Lane was shut for time, re-opening at 6.21pm. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting Operation Parkland.
