Entries Open For Eastbourne Soapbox Race 2022

Entries are now open for the Eastbourne Seafront Soapbox Race with participants being encouraged to book early.

After a successful inaugural year in 2021 which saw 35 teams and thousands of spectators, the popular contest will return on Sunday 25 September 2022.

The event sees entrants building their own non-motorised soapbox in order to race each other along the seafront. The race will take place on Dukes Drive and finish at Helen Garden.

Spectators can watch the wacky creations as they hilariously whizz around corners with the help of gravity, in the hope of staying in one piece by the time they reach the finish line.

Cash prizes will be up for grabs for the fastest soapbox and the wackiest creation.

The free to watch event will see participants take to the course which is just under 350m long and will contain various jumps, crazy bends, and hay-bale chicanes, not to mention the outlandish outfits and soapboxes on display.

Eastbourne Borough Council’s lead member for tourism and culture, Cllr Margaret Bannister, said:

"This is a very welcome return for the Seafront Soapbox Race, a real fun event for both participants and spectators.

"Last year’s event was a huge success and thousands of people lined the route to watch the fun, fearless and foolhardy entrants race along the seafront.

"Making and completing your wacky creation doesn’t have to cost the earth plus you can have a great time building it."

Entries cost £100 per team and for information and to book into the competition visit www.SeafrontSoapbox.com.
