Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas was among those who called for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Palestine at a rally in the city today.
During the vigil at the Peace Angel, organised by Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign, an estimated 600 people under often rainy skies heard the city's Green MP condemn attacks from both sides of the conflict, and plead for a ceasefire.
Her call, also echoed in a statement sent to the rally by Brighton Kempton's Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, included the United Nations' resolution passed on Friday, requiring "an immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities".
Between listening to several speeches in the rally that began at 2pm, attendees were led in chants of "Ceasefire now", and "Free, free Palestine".
No uniformed police attended.
