Family pay tribute to 'generous and kind' cyclist killed in hit and run in Hailsham

The family of a cyclist killed in a hit and run in Hailsham have described him as a 'hugely popular man', who was 'generous and kind'. Local man Nathan Hill, 51, died at the scene of the incident in London Road around 7pm on Thursday (January, 30). Police said he was cycling close to the junction with Grovelands Road, when he struck by a car, causing him to fall into the path of an oncoming bus. Officers said enquiries are ongoing, but the car reported to have been involved remains unidentified at this time. Nathan's family have since issued the following tribute: "Nathan was much loved by everyone who knew him. "He was a hugely popular man, well known in Hailsham. "He was generous and kind and always stopped to say hello to people. "He enjoyed his job, going to his local gym, and his social life – he had many friends. "He particularly enjoyed dancing and karaoke. "Nathan worked at Tradesmith in Hailsham as a window and door maker, and previously at Abbott Joinery for 24 years. "He attended Hellingly School and The Lindfield School, Eastbourne. "In 2008 he won a Skills for Life award from Sussex Down College. "He leaves behind his mum, dad, sister and brother, his niece and nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins." Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101, quoting Operation Hopwood.   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
