Police have made an arrest in connection with a crash in East Sussex that killed a driver, and left his two-year-old son in a serious condition in hospital — and where a driver made off from the scene.

The child was airlifted to London after the four-vehicle collision that killed his father, on the A267 near Frant on Wednesday morning, August 18.

The man who died at the scene was aged 36, and from Dartford in Kent.

One of the drivers involved failed to stop at the scene, as the law requires, and police yesterday issued an appeal in their efforts to trace them.

On Thursday evening, officers said they had arrested a 76-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells.

He was in police custody last night, suspected of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to stop after an accident.

A call for witnesses to come forward, and to supply dashcam footage, continues, with reports welcomed online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Utility.
