Tourism bosses in Eastbourne said today (July 20) at least one of the autumn's festivals will go ahead, with practical social distancing measures in place.
It's the town's Walking Festival, still scheduled for 18–27 September 2020.
According to the Borough Council, the format remains the same as before: a curated collection of more than 50 free-to-join guided walks, together with published itineraries for self-guided walks around the town and its surrounding countryside.
Themes for the walks include Mindfulness and Wellbeing, the Archaeology of the Seven Sisters and even a Vintage Post Box walk.
There's an economic purpose behind the festival, too, as council officers said the festival could be a "key driver" for the local economy, considering the anticipated increase in UK "staycations" for the remainder of this year.
The festival's initial announcement emphasised that the town's tourism industry had worked on becoming "Covid-19 ready", ahead of the autumn's arrivals.
Organisers said accommodation providers, restaurants and public services had implemented many safety measures.
To allow for social distancing, guided walks will have a limited capacity with walk leaders receiving additional training on leading walks safely to comply with current guidelines.
The festival today also launched its new website: https://www.eastbournewalkingfestival.com/
