Driver Airlifted To Hospital After A272 Collision

A driver has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle left the A272 at Rogate this morning.

Paramedics were called to reports of a single vehicle collision on the A272 near Chithurst Lane, at around 6.15am.

SECAmb, air ambulance, police and firefighters attended the scene.

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said:

"Emergency services were called to a report of a car leaving the A272 at Stedham and landing in a ditch near Iping Lane on Tuesday (3 November) at 6.50am. 

"The driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, by air ambulance. The road is currently closed while recovery of the vehicle takes place." 

A spokesperson from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said:

"Joint Fire Control was alerted to a road traffic collision on the A272 near Rogate this morning at 6.46am.

"Fire engines from Midhurst and Petworth were mobilised to the scene alongside the Heavy Rescue Tender from Chichester. Officers from Sussex Police and paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

"On arrival at the scene, crews found one vehicle that had left the carriageway.

"The A272 was closed to allow crews to work safely to carry out a rescue.

"They released one person from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment, who was left in the care of paramedics.

"The last crew left the scene at 8.30am."
