West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service used 40 sets of breathing apparatus to tackle a large fire at Crawley's Metcalf Way Waste Depot last night (Friday).
The service said it was called to the fire at the Viridor Waste Management site on Friday evening, and was fighting the fire until 6.55am this morning (Saturday).
Crews from Crawley, Reigate, Petworth and East Grinstead attended the blaze, which saw approximately 40-tonnes of material alight.
Residents in the area were advised to keep windows and doors shut as the teams used two hydrants, two monitor jets, and three main jets to control the flames.
One crew is set to return this morning to inspect the site.
