Firefighters help police detain three men after break-in at business in Hastings

Firefighters on call in Hastings have helped police detain three men arrested in connection with a burglary at a business in Hastings. Around 11.30pm last night (Monday, 14), officers received a report of a break-in at Parker Building Supplies in Rock Lane. The description of three suspects and the van they used was sent out on the radio, and a nearby police car spotted the trio. The van was followed for a while until it crashed into another vehicle. Fire crew from East Sussex Fire and Rescue were at the scene for an unrelated reason but managed to help officers detain two of the suspects, who were on foot. The third suspect ran away but both police and firefighters came together to look for him -  they found him hiding in a garden. A 39-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of a Class A drug. A 40-year-old man from Hastings was arrested on suspicion of burglary and failing to stop when required by police. And a 21-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of burglary. All three remain in police custody at this stage.
