Above, you can see how firefighters in West Sussex brought to safety a horse whose unscheduled swim near Pulborough on Thursday (August 5) would have ended badly, had it not been for their rescue.

This morning, Friday, a spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service took up the story:

“We were called at 3.58 on Thursday afternoon to reports of an elderly horse stuck in a river near Blackgate Lane in Pulborough.

"Joint Fire Control mobilised a crew from Billingshurst Fire Station to the scene along with the service’s Technical Rescue Unit.

“Using the Unimog crane, firefighters were able to safely lift the horse back onto dry land and reunite it with its owner.”
