Firefighters tackle blaze at Littlehampton care home

Firefighters have been dealing with a fire at a care home in Littlehampton this morning (Wednesday, 8) West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Littlehampton, Arundel, East Preston and Worthing attended the scene at the Franciscan Convent in East Street at around 9.30am. The 24-bed St Joseph's Nursing Home for people over the age of 65 is situated on site and is owned by the convent. Nearby residents were asked to keep doors and windows shut and avoid the area. Firefighters said the fire involved solar panels on top of the building. The fire was brought under control at around 11am and all residents were accounted for. Crews remained at the scene. The fire service said they are working closely with Arun District Council over the welfare of the residents.
