Firefighters from four separate locations have been tackling a blaze in a second-floor flat in Hastings that appears to have caused serious damage.
The alarm was raised about the residential property in the town's Farley Bank earlier today, Sunday 23 May.
The flat's interior and the roof above it appear heavily charred, and the front window is entirely missing, though the building's structure does not appear harmed at first sight.
Firefighters from Broad Oak, Battle, Bexhill, Hastings and Eastbourne were in attendance, using equipment including an aerial ladder.
By 3.30pm, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had been extinguished, but crews were still dampening down, and cutting away.
At the height of the incident, crews used 14 sets of breathing apparatus, one aerial ladder platform, one hydrant and one hose reel jet to put out the flames.
A fire investigation is due to take place later on today.
All persons from the property are accounted for.
