East Sussex Fire And Rescue Service are asking householders in East Sussex to take extra care after attending four fires in homes in two days.
According to the fire service, two engines were called to a blaze in a sitting room in Battle's Marley Lane, just after 2am this morning (December 31).
Yesterday (December 30), three engines attended a fire in a ground floor flat in East View Terrace, Sedlescombe, around 30 minutes after midnight.
Two other fires were attended by crews at homes in Ghyll Road and Back Lane in Heathfield yesterday.
There were no reported injuries.
Advice from ESFRS:
- Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home
- Chimneys need to be maintained and swept on a regular basis – if you haven’t done so already, get a qualified chimney sweep to check things over
- Many fires begin in the kitchen – keep an eye on cooking and always use a timer
- Electrics are a common cause of fire – watch out for signs of wear and tear in cables and switch off appliances when not in use
