Four rescued after firefighters tackled blaze at Kemptown flat

Four people have been rescued following a fire in a Brighton flat this morning (Wednesday, 27). Firefighters were called to a terraced property in St Georges Road at around 9.50am. Officials said smoke was coming from a windown on the first floor. Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters were called to a terraced property in St Georges Road at around 9.50am.

Officials said smoke was coming from a windown on the first floor.

Crews used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

Fire engines from Brighton and Hove were supported by the control unit from Lewes.

Incident Commander Tom Walby said:

"The aerial ladder platform was used to reach one person and three others were led to safety. 

"Everyone else has been accounted for."

Roads in the area were still affected as of 11am while firefighters worked to bring the incident to a close.

The cause of the fire hasn't been confirmed.
