Free 'Cabs For Jabs' Fundraiser For Brighton Vaccinations

Free taxi journeys to and from Covid-19 vaccination appointments are being provided by two Brighton and Hove cab firms.

More than £2,500 had been raised by Tuesday (January 26) morning towards providing a free service for those struggling to make appointments across the city.

Money donated to the 'Brighton and Hove Cabs for Jabs' page goes into a pot for both Brighton and Hove Streamline Taxis and Brighton and Hove Radio Cabs to use to provide the service across the city.

Director of Brighton and Hove Radio Cabs, Andy Beale, said:

"Cabs for Jabs was originally set up by a company in Winchester, which has now caught on and come along to other areas. Obviously we saw it elsewhere in the media, which brought us to obviously come on board with this great initiative.

"We want to help get the elderly and the vulnerable to vaccine centres."

Andy said that some of the medical centres were quite concerned about some people not being able to make appointments, and approached the taxi firms to see how they could be of assistance to them.

Amgad Mechaeil, Vice Chairman at Brighton and Hove Streamline Taxis said they want to generate funding that both companies can use to pay for taxi rides for elderly and vulnerable passengers.

The money is being used for one particular account for both firms, meaning it will only be accessed for journeys to and from vaccination centres.

Mr. Mechaeil added:

"Rather than having to pay out for the journey, we will use the money from this fund to pay for trips to and from the vaccination centres."

Patients worried about getting to their appointment just need to call either company on (01273) 202 020 or 204 060.

Andy Added:

"All they need to do is give us a call, we operate 24 hours a day.

"They need to let us know where they are, the time of their appointment, and which vaccination centre they need.

"We cover the Brighton and Hove area, which basically goes from Saltdean to just the other side of Portslade."

Andy said they want as many people to get on board with the initiative as possible, no matter how small the donation.

Drivers will not be able to provide the journeys without the donations during a time where work is already being impacted by the pandemic.

The more money raised, the more journeys can be provided, meaning there's less of a chance of anyone missing out from getting protected from the serious complications caused by Covid-19.
