A £2.7million transformation of Worthing’s Montague Place has been approved.

The £2.7 million project will be funded from Worthing Borough Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), raised from developers building new developments in Worthing, having been approved by the council’s joint strategic sub-committee at its meeting on Tuesday, September 12.

Key features of the development include increased biodiversity and green space, more shelter from sun and wind, more seating, and increased accessibility throughout.

Montague Place is stage three of an eight-stage, £5million restoration project for Worthing from West Sussex County Council. Worthing Borough Council assume responsibility for, and fund, this stage.

Councillor Caroline Baxter (Lab, Central) said finding a developer and project manager for the Montague Place development would start towards the end of the year, and it was hoped work would be finished by spring 2024.

Concept designs for the project were designed with the county council and were subject to public consultation earlier this year. They are viewable at https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/montague-place-worthing/
