Further Explosions Help Clear West Sussex Beaches Of Wartime Ordnance

Another controlled explosion has taken place on a beach in West Sussex as bomb disposal experts dealt with wartime ordnance.

Teams including Selsey Coastguard attended the entrance of Pagham Harbour on Saturday.

After the explosive device making up the ordnance was found, photographs were taken and sent to the expert Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.

A safety cordon surrounded the site, before the bomb disposal team arrived.

Debris shot up into the air (see Selsey Coastguard picture, above) when a controlled detonation took place.

Coastguards advised:

"Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes and ordnance found on this beach has been found to be highly explosive.

"Please do not touch it — but call the Coastguard straight away."

“The coast and the sea can catch you out whether you’re local or not."
