Gatwick Express Services Suspended Today

Urgent repairs to the track between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport means services running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

Disruption to the service is likely to last for the whole of today (Monday, June 12).

Southern Rail has issued the following advice to customers:

Due to urgent repairs to the track, fewer platforms are available at East Croydon, which means that the service will be revised.

  • Gatwick Express services will not run. Tickets will be valid on alternative Southern and Thameslink services
  • Some Thameslink services will use different platforms at East Croydon
  • Southern services which normally run between London Victoria and Portsmouth / Bognor Regis will not run between London Victoria and Gatwick, and will terminate and start back from Gatwick Airport
  • Southern services which normally run between London Victoria and Southampton Central / Bognor Regis will not run between London Victoria and Gatwick, and will terminate and start back from Gatwick Airport

If you a travelling between London and Portsmouth / Southampton you will need to take an alternative service and change at Gatwick Airport.

You can check how these changes may affect your journey using the live route map here.

In an update issued this morning, Southern explained what brought about the incident:

On Sunday morning, a set of points (which allow trains to move from one line to another) were damaged in the East Croydon area.

As a result, platform 1 at East Croydon cannot be used.

Network Rail are in the process of sourcing replacement parts for these and have made a temporary repair, with plans now in place to carry out the work overnight tonight (June 12 / 13).

Work to carry out a full repair has been delayed due to a separate power supply issue in the Redhill area, which was repaired overnight last night (June 11 / 12).
