It is good news for Saltdean Lido - which has secured funding for its future.

Brighton and Hove City Council has agreed to a £1.135m match-funding package to support the Grade II historic restoration.

Local councillor Joe Miller worked with the local authority to agree to a deal - which would enable to site to be brought back to its former glory.

The volunteer team behind the Lido restoration project have already secured money from multiple trusts, foundations and supporters but this could not be used until all the money was in place.

Work will start on upgrading the lido later this year.

Derek Leaver, chair of SLCIC said:

“This is a good day for Saltdean Lido, the city and all of our supporters. There is still a huge amount of work to do before we can put boots on the ground – saving the building is going to be a complex task. But this is a day to celebrate and we thank everyone who’s been part of the project over the past 10 years to bring us to this point”.

Saltdean Lido will be restored as a national tourist destination and create dozens of new jobs.
