Government Confirms Extra £18.1m Sussex Police Funding Proposal For 2021/22

Sussex Police

After the announcement, Sussex's Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said it would bring this county a further 127 officers.

The additional funding, taking Sussex Police's allocation from the government up to nearly £328m, is augmented by the "police precept" taken from council tax across all Sussex.

The precept generally adds up to around a third more funding, and is permitted to be increased up to £15 for a Band D property next year.

Sussex's figure from the government is part of the proposed national total of up to £15.8bn for the 2021/22 financial year.

It includes funding for use by the Police and Crime Commissioner, whose post comes up for election next year.

The government said that, nationally, it expects the new allocation to "drive the recruitment of 20,000 extra officers" by March 2023.

The figures for Sussex Police are:

  • Funding for 2020/21: £309.6m
  • Funding for 2021/22: £327.7m
  • Increase: £18.1m
