Hastings Detectives Investigate Deliberate Fire Started In Tower Block

A deliberate fire started on the 13th floor of a block of flats in St Leonards is being investigated by detectives.

A mattress had apparently been set alight at Kennedy Court in Stonehouse Drive on Sunday evening around 7pm.

The fire was quickly extinguished, no one was injured and no major damage was caused.

However, detectives from Hastings CID and East Sussex Fire & Rescue are reminding residents of the seriousness of a fire in a tower block and urging anyone who lives in a block of flats to check they're familiar with the fire plan and fire exits where they live.

They also recommend regularly checking that fire alarms are in working order.

Anyone who witnessed the fire, saw any suspicious behaviour in the area around that time, or who has any other information is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 1213 of 04/07.

Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
