Hastings Man Charged With Burglary After Robbing House While Victim Slept

A man from Hastings has been remanded in custody after burgling a house while the victim slept and making three transactions on her credit card.

The victim had gone to bed at around 10pm last Friday (April 22) but was woken up in the night by a noise, which she assumed was her daughter returning home.

She went back to sleep but when she woke on Saturday morning she found her handbag and laptop missing. When she checked her bank account she found three attempted transactions had been made on her credit card that morning.

Officers and PCSOs from the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team swiftly carried out a number of enquiries which lead to Gregory Francis Charles being identified as a suspect and arrested at his home address. A search of Charles' address was conducted by officers and the stolen items recovered.

The unemployed 53-year-old of Devonshire Road, Hastings, was charged with one count of burglary and three counts of fraud following the break-in to the property in Baldslow Road.

He appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Monday (April 25) and was remanded in custody to next appear before the court on May 24.
