A Hastings man has been jailed for six years for drugs and firearms offences.
Police said Joshua Sawyer, 29, unemployed, of Grove Road, was arrested in Hastings on April 17, shortly after 5am.
It was part of an operation carried out at an address in Grove Road, and one in Harkness Drive.
According to officers, there was no violence or injury and no shots were fired, but as they entered Sawyer's address in Gove Road he was seen to throw a holdall over the back wall inthe next door garden.
He was arrested before he could follow it.
In the holdall were found an imitation sawn-off shotgun, 25 viable 16-bore cartridges, and cocaine with an estimated potential street value of some £3500.
The 29-year-old appeared at Lewes Crown Court on July 7 where he pleaded guilty to; possession with intent to supply cocaine, for which he was given three years; possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit indictable offence, for which he was given a further 18 months; possessing firearm ammunition when prohibited, an 18-month sentence concurrent with the other two; and breaching previously suspended sentence for causing grievous bodily harm, for which he was given a further 18 months.
DS Jason Tuck said:
"Our information that Sawyer was engaged in drug dealing was clearly accurate, and the weapon was obviously for use in any threats connected with that activity.
"We are continuing our operations to disrupt organised criminality which affects our local communities in this way."
