Hastings Man To Walk To Wales In Aid Of Local Foodbank

A Hastings man has pledged to walk to the summit of Snowdon in Wales to raise money for Dom's Food Mission, a local community food bank.

With the idea of walking 350 miles across 10 counties firmly stuck in his head, Matt Edmonds, aka The Lanky Walker, said he'd always wanted to dream up the perfect challenge that would test his abilities:

"I must admit, I have no control over when these ridiculous concepts that spring into my mind. One moment it’s a soothing amble along the coast and the next, walking to the summit of Wales from my hometown seems like a great idea."

He then decided to come up with a local charity to fundraise for:

"Dom’s Food Mission has become a vital part of our community, supporting those who need it most. In the current challenging climate their hard work has never been more important."

DFM started in 2015 by husband and wife team Dominic and Alexandria Warren. They started off collecting food donations from a car park on 'donation days' with a mission to 'help feed less fortunate people and make an impact on food waste'.

They now have drop-off donation points in ASDA and Morrisons supermarkets and have signed partnerships with the likes of Morrison’s, Marks and Spencer’s, Tescos, KFC, Costa coffee, Sainsbury’s, Greggs and many more and they say they saved 305,000 meals from landfill last year.

They also provide education in local schools, helping children with cooking skills and teaching them how to get the most from their ingredients.

Matt says:

"On Saturday 28th May at 07:00 I will take the first footstep on the journey from Dom’s Food Mission hub to the summit of Snowdon. If you’re able to support in anyway, myself and the entire DFM team would massively appreciate it.

"There will be plenty of tough days ahead as the miles, elevation and blisters grow but with your support, we can do this!"
