High speed car chase through Worthing leads to four arrests

Police have arrested four people after a stolen car was chased by officers through Worthing town centre yesterday (November, 10) evening. The force said the chase took place after a burglary was reported at a flat in Hove on Friday (November, 8). Keys to a grey Ford Focus were among the stolen items, which the offenders returned the following day (November, 9) to steal. Officers then used Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to locate the vehicle in Worthing town centre at about 8.15pm yesterday evening. A pursuit ensued, ending up with the vehicle losing control and crashing into bollards in Augusta Place. Police said a group of people left the vehicle and ran towards the sea. The two officers who chased them on foot arrested three suspects east of Worthing Pier, while a fourth suspect was arrested shortly after. Two boys, aged 16, one of no fixed address and one from Croyden, a man from Croyden, aged 24, and a man from Greenwich, aged 18, remain in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
