New Grants Available As Horsham-Based Business Wins Funding On BBC's Dragons Den

Peter and Chris Maxted in the Dragons' Den

Horsham-based business owners Peter and Chris Maxted of The Dog-G8 Company were recently successful on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den programme.

Renowned entrepreneur Deborah Meaden invested £50k in return for 20% of their business.

Watch their pitch here:

In 2020 The Dog-G8 Company benefitted from Horsham Council’s popular LEAP Small Business Grant scheme, which provides an injection of funding of up to £2,000 aimed at start-ups and small businesses based in Horsham District. The business received a grant which supported essential marketing activity for them during the early stages of their business development.

The family business designs and manufactures innovative concertina dog safety gates, which can fit a variety of configurations including doorways and stairways. The gates can act as a training aid, to improve dog behaviour at the front door. The business has harnessed the power of social media with a particularly impressive following on TikTok.

Commenting on The Dog-G8 Company’s success, Cllr Richard Landeryou, Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development said:

“It is fantastic news that a local business and one of our past LEAP grant recipients secured such an excellent investment on Dragons’ Den. It really demonstrates the innovation and drive which exists in our local business community. To have been part of their journey during the early stages of their development through our LEAP scheme is a pleasure and I look forward to watching them continue to flourish and grow.”

The Dog-G8 Company commented:

“The Horsham District Councils' LEAP grant came at a crucial time for us, we were able to use the funding to hire a Horsham-based photographer, Sophie Ward, to produce exceptional lifestyle images of the product range, images we still use to this day, and we still work with Sophie.

“Applying for the LEAP grant was very straightforward, the team were very helpful with the process, and we would recommend any Horsham-based business to apply.”

If you have a small business based in Horsham District and are looking to establish or adapt to change, keep an eye out for news of another round of LEAP grant funding launching on Monday 3 April 2023.
