Hove business officially switches to a four-day working week

A recruitment business in Hove has officially made the move to a four-day working week following a six month trial. The idea was first suggested to MRL Consulting Group's chief executive David Stone in a meeting in January 2019. Speaking to More Radio, he said: "One of the biggest topics every quarter is recruitment and retention for our own company. "The German manager said 'what do you think about a four day week?' "He honestly thought I was just going to laugh at it, but I said 'okay, are you just after an extra day off, or what's the thought process here?'" Stone said a man he'd worked with 20 years previously implemented the idea in his London based company around four and a half years ago. With this in mind, he spoke to his acquaintance in London and carried out some further research on the concept. A conclusion was reached that if you get it right (and David claimed a number of businesses in Europe have), it's a very positive thing to do. He said: "Put it this way, if we've got a four day week, good people will never leave and more good people will want to join." In May 2019 the company began trialling the concept, and announced this month they were permanently making the move. David added: "If this gives us our unique proposition against all our competitors in Brighton, because it's a ferociously competitive environment, then that's got to be a good idea. "The concept of just throwing more hours at the problem is not sensible, it does not fix the problem. "What we've got to get into is actual productivity and efficiency." Here's what they found:
