UPDATE: Hove School Closed This Morning Following Fire

Blatchington Mill school will be closed this morning following a fire at the site on the afternoon of January 17.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue (ESFRS) were called to the school at 5.42pm on January 17, following reports of a fire at the site.

Four engine were observed to have been at the scene at the height of the fire.

Reports confirm that all persons were accounted for and there were no injuries.

ESFRS said:

"As of 6.30pm, we are continuing to fight the fire which is affecting the ground floor of a building. 

"Crews are using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

"There is a lot of smoke in the air so please keep doors and windows closed, and continue to avoid the area. 

"There are no reports of injuries.

"Police are also in attendance."

At 9pm ESFRS said:

"As of 9pm we are scaling back operations at the scene, with some fire engines now leaving. 

"Crews are ensuring the smoke is cleared from the building by using a Positive Pressure Ventilation fan.

"A fire investigation will take place in due course."

Blatchington Mill school will be closed for a second day following a fire on Wednesday afternoon (January 17).

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of arson.
