Immediate Action Required As Flood Warnings Issued In East Sussex

Two flood warnings have been issued in Sussex this morning (Friday), meaning flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

The warnings, sent by the Government's flood warning service, are in place for Crowhurst and Hellingly and Horsebridge.

In Crowhurst, the Powdermill Stream is high and rising following 30mm of rain within the space of 24 hours - the amount normally seen in an average week.

Residents on Forewood Lane, along with those near Crowhurst Recreation Ground and between the Plough public house and the junction of Sampsons Lane on Sandrock Hill are being advised to install flood protection products immediately.

The Flood Warning Service said:

"From 04:30 Friday 4/12/2020 flooding could affect fields, rural roads and a small number of properties in Crowhurst.

"From 06:00 4/12/2020 the rain should clear, leaving a largely dry day Friday.

"This should allow the river to begin to fall by 13:00 4/12/2020.

"Water levels could end up a little higher than in the recent mid November event. With low pressure never far away, further rain could return Saturday, Sunday and Monday, which could see the risk of flooding return.

"We continue to monitor the levels and forecast. We will update this message by 16:30 4/12/2020"

In Hellngly and Horsebridge, residents are urged to plan to avoid driving through routes susceptible flooding, including Station Road, Mill Lane, and Church Lane.

It's expected that Mill Lane will become impassable.
