Investigation due to start into fire at Claremont Hotel, Eastbourne

The fire at the Claremont Hotel in Eastbourne is finally out. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed they have extinguished the remaining pockets of fire, with the building damped down. After extensive work by the supplier, the gas supply to the hotel has also been isolated. Fire crews remained on scene for most of the weekend, after the blaze broke out on Friday morning (22 November), finally being able to leave late yesterday, although the site continued to be inspected and monitored overnight. Road closures remain in place, along with cordons, which are being monitored by Sussex Police. An investigation into the cause of the fire is due to start this morning (25 November). The neighbouring Afton Hotel has confirmed it too has been affected by the fire and will be closed until further notice.   More Radio is continuously dedicated to providing a quality news service on-air and online, reporting local stories that matter across Sussex.
