Man Charged Following Double Attempted Murder In Crawley

A man has been charged following a double attempted murder in Crawley during which two men sustained serious knife injuries.

It happened around 7.30pm last Friday (Oct 22). Police were called following reports of a man in possession of a weapon.

Officers arrived at the scene in Horsham Road to find two men with knife wounds.

They were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and East Surrey Hospital - one has since been discharged and one remains in a stable condition.

Ali Bhatti, 32, unemployed, of Henderson Road, Crawley, was safely detained with the use of a Taser and a weapon was seized. 

He's been charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public space.

He'll appear before Crawley Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 25. 

Detective Inspector Jason Hazzard said:

"This was a serious and distressing assault on two people, and residents can expect to see a continued police presence in the area while our investigation is ongoing.

 

"I'd like to thank the members of the public who have been in touch to support our investigation so far, and to the wider community for their patience while we responded to this incident.

"We continue to ask for anyone who saw what happened to come forward, particularly anyone who has any relevant mobile phone or dash cam footage."

"We ask people not to share this footage on social media but to get in touch with us so it can be used to support our ongoing investigation."
