The Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner for the next three years will be Katy Bourne — who has held the post since it was created in 2012.
Voters returned Mrs. Bourne for a third consecutive time, after going to the polls last Thursday.
She stood on behalf of the Conservative Party, heading off opposition from the Labour candidate Paul Richards, Green contender Kahina Bouhassane, LibDem Jamie Bennett and independent Roy Williams.
Vote counters needed to take account of second preferences, after the count of first preferences found Mrs. Bourne's total came to less than half of all votes available.
Her term is only three years, not the customary four, as a result of the delay in her election, made necessary by Covid restrictions in 2020.
After taking into account second preferences, the results as announced at 4.29pm were:
Candidate | First preference votes | Second preference votes | Total votes |
---|---|---|---|
Jamie Frank Bennett (Liberal Democrats) | 63,271 | - | 63,271 |
Kahina Suzanna Bouhassane (Green Party) | 60,781 | - | 60,781 |
Katy Elizabeth Bourne (Conservative) | 214,523 | 30,287 | 244,810 |
Paul Adrian Richards (Labour and Co-operative Party) | 84,736 | 43,523 | 128,259 |
Roy Thomas Williams (Independent) | 30,408 | - | 30,408 |
