A sustainable clothing company in Lewes has adapted to the needs of the times and transformed into a 'scrub hub'. Diana Uprichard, owner of Dolly Clothing in the town, has brought together a community of sewers to help support key workers during the coronavirus lockdown. In just three weeks Dolly Scrub Hub mobilised more than 180 'home-sewers' into making the protective clothing and hats to be sent to places like care homes, hospitals and hospices across East Sussex. After setting up a fundraising page, that attracted much more attention than originally anticipated, Diana sourced the tricky material, and with the help of friend Kirsty Tyler, tweaked a design for their scrubs. [video width="848" height="480" mp4="https://moreradio.online/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/VIDEO-2020-04-23-15-08-51.mp4"][/video] Diana said: "The mission continues and I just want to say keep up the good work everyone and thank you so much to everyone who has donated. So far, Diana and her team have cut and sent out around 600 kits, on their return they pass them onto the East Sussex Seamstresses who in turn pass them to the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust to distribute. There's been another positive outcome from the movement. Diana added: "The feedback that we've had from the sewers has been absolutely incredible. "It seems to have really lit up their community spirit and a need to help, to do something useful - and sew! "Which is hugely therapeutic and a wonderful thing to do. "We've had an amazing response from people who are maybe isolated grandparents and don't know what they can do. "Homeschooling children are getting involved with parents, and also furloughed workers who just need something to do with their time, that is also really useful. "It's been a really uplifting and inspiring time." Bespoke Lewes-based millinery, Lomax & Skinner, and jewellery designer Andrea Eserin are among the hundreds taking part in East Sussex who have shared their 'lockdown' creations.
