Maria Caulfield is one of 44 MPs identified by The European Movement who will be targeted in a campaign to unseat them over their support for the UK-Australia trade deal.

The campaigners say they'll be pouring tens of thousands of pounds into hard-hitting campaign ads in a bid to unseat the MPs and pile pressure on the Government to change course.

In an exclusive story by the Mirror, Maria Caulfield was named as one of the 'high priority' MPs that would be targeted as well as East Worthing and Shoreham's Tim Loughton and Horsham's Jeremy Quin.

The trade deal could mean a drop in food standards, such as an influx of chlorinated chicken and will mean British farmers are undercut.

One ad to be targeted at voters in senior Tory Liam Fox's North Somerset reads: 'Skinning lambs alive is cruel and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the UK market. Tell your Tory MP Liam Fox to fight for animal welfare standards”.

In a poll carried out by The European Movement, they found that the majority of people would back an ouright ban on imported food that doesn't meet British standards.

They told the Mirror that if they can convince one in ten Tory voters (in their targeted seats) to switch votes, the 44 could be under threat.

Labour peer Lord Andrew Adonis, who is chair of the European Movement said:

“Voters deserve to know when their Tory MP is backing a bad deal that critically undermines traditional British values.

“So, we are putting Tory MPs on notice: Stand up for what your constituents believe in or be sure that we will let them know you let them down.

“The British public is clear: Back British farmers, keep chlorine out of our food and stop slashing standards.”
